Naivasha offers two hikes of completely different character within an hour of each other. Mount Longonot climbs steeply to a volcanic crater rim with the Great Rift Valley laid out below. Hell’s Gate Gorge walks downward into narrow sculpted channels past hot springs and rock walls. One tests your lungs, the other tests your footing. And both are simple, once you’re on the trail. The friction is everything that comes before it:
Organise all of that yourself and a good day’s walking becomes a logistics exercise. Hand it to us and it stays a hike with a view worth the climb.
Chariot Safaris coordinates complete Naivasha hiking packages from Nairobi. We handle the movement, the park entry, and the guiding, working only with hiking guides we have vetted personally. You pick your hike and your date. We take care of the rest.
Naivasha rewards company, so the more of you there are, the better the per-person rate. Guiding and transport are shared across the group, which is why larger parties pay less per head.
| Group size | Price per person | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| 1–2 hikers | KES 10,500 | Private, personalised day out |
| 3–4 hikers | KES 8,000 | Friends, couples, small families |
| 5–8 hikers | KES 4,500 | Clubs, teams, small cohorts |
| 9–16 hikers | KES 3,500 | Institutions, corporate team-building |
Prices cover transport, park entry, and guiding for one hike. Combining both hikes across a single day, overnight camping, and activity add-ons are quoted separately. For groups above 16, or for a school, corporate, or institutional booking, message us for a tailored quote.
However you hike, the package covers the parts that turn a walk into a day out:
Add-ons available on request: combining both hikes across one day, cycling in Hell’s Gate, Lake Naivasha boat excursions, camping, and picnic arrangements.
To keep the pricing honest, here’s what sits outside the package unless you ask for it:
Two mountains, two very different days. We run both — the right one depends on your group, your fitness, and what kind of walking you’re after.
Mount Longonot crater rim — the classic
A steady, steep climb from the gate to the crater rim at around 2,776 metres, where the forested crater floor opens below you and the Rift Valley stretches out behind. Most groups turn back at the rim. Fitter groups circuit the full rim, which roughly doubles the day and delivers the views the turn-back crowd never see. This is our default recommendation for hikers who want a summit.
Hell’s Gate Gorge — the adventurous one
Not a climb but a descent, into narrow sculpted channels with vertical rock walls, natural hot springs, and formations shaped over centuries by water. Some sections involve scrambling. It asks less of your lungs and more of your hands and footing. Best for confident walkers comfortable on uneven rock.
Both in one day — the long one
Longonot in the cool of the morning, the gorge in the afternoon. It’s a full day and a long one, but the two sit close enough to make it work for fit groups. Quoted separately.
Not sure which fits? Tell us who’s coming and their fitness level, and we’ll recommend the hike that suits the group.
We handle transport, entry, and guiding — but a few things are yours to bring:
Dress in comfortable layers. Longonot has almost no shade, and the gorge is cooler than the plains above it.
A note on timing: the gorge carries a flash flood risk during the rainy seasons and closes in poor weather. We assess conditions before descent and will reroute to Longonot rather than take a group into a gorge we don’t like the look of.
